Before MV repair (left), there
is prolapse of the middle
scallop of the posterior leaflet.
After resection of the middle
scallop and insertion of an
annuloplasty ring (right), the
mitral annulus is decreased in
size and the point of coaptation
between the anterior and
posterior leaflets displaced
towards the base of the anterior
leaflet.  The resulting redundant
leaflet tissue can now move
anteriorly into the LVOT.
